Java is still the most popular programming language

Details can be found at "TIOBE Programming Community Index for June 2009" (URL: http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html).

The top five programming languages are:
  1. Java
  2. C
  3. C++
  4. PHP
  5. (Visual) Basic
Java, as a programming language, will rule the world of programming for years to come. What is dynamic and changing is the landscape of frameworks built on top of Java.

I don't see how the TIOBE index measures popularity. To determine the score for a particular language (say PHP), they just search for "PHP Programming" on Yahoo, Google, Google Blogs, MSN, Wikipedia and YouTube, count the number of hits and get a weighted average. How does that relate to the number of programmers using the language? If you are an experience PHP programmer, when was the last time you searched for "PHP Programming"?
